ডুয়েল গেজে (ব্রড গেজ) উন্নীতকরণ কাজ শেষ হয়েছে পার্বতীপুর-দিনাজপুর-পঞ্চগড় রেল লাইনের। উদ্বোধনের অপেক্ষায় ঠাকুরগাঁও ও পঞ্চগড় জেলার ৩০ লক্ষাধিক মানুষ এখন অধীর আগ্রহে প্রহর গুনছে। কোনদিন শুরু হবে পঞ্চগড়-ঠাকুরগাঁও-ঢাকা ব্রডগেজ লাইনে আন্তঃনগর ট্রেন চলাচল।রেল মন্ত্রণালয় ৯৮২ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে ২০১০ সালের অক্টোবরে জেলার পার্বতীপুর-দিনাজপুর-ঠাকুরগাঁও-পঞ্চগড় মিটারগেজ রেলপথকে আধুনিকায়ন ও ডুয়েলগেজে রূপান্তরিত করতে তমা কনস্ট্রাকশন ও ম্যাক্স ইন্টারন্যাশনাল নামে দুটি ঠিকাদারি প্রতিষ্ঠানকে নিয়োগ করে। পার্বতীপুর থেকে ভোমরাদহ রেল স্টেশন পর্যন্ত একশ কিলোমিটারের কাজ পায় তমা কনস্ট্রাকশন ও ভোমরাদহ রেল স্টেশন থেকে পঞ্চগড় স্টেশন পর্যন্ত ৫০ কিলোমিটারের কাজ পায় ম্যাক্স ইন্টারন্যাশনাল। দীর্ঘ ৭ বছর চলে এ রেল লাইন উন্নয়নের কাজ। ২০১৬ সালের ডিসেম্বরে কাজ শেষ হয়।
পশ্চিমাঞ্চল রেলওয়ের প্রধান প্রকৌশলী রমজান আলী জানান, নির্মাণ কাজ শেষ। রেলওয়ের সরকারি পরিদর্শক এ লাইনে ৮০ কিলোমিটার বেগে ট্রেন চলাচলের অনুমতি দিয়েছেন। এ লাইনে আন্তঃনগর ট্রেন চলাচলে কোনো বাধা নেই।ঠাকুরগাঁও চেম্বার অব কমার্সের পরিচালক রেজওয়ানুল হক বিপ্লব জানান, পীরগঞ্জসহ ঠাকুরগাঁও জেলা কৃষিভিত্তিক এলাকা। এ লাইনে দ্রুতগামী ট্রেন চালু হলে ঠাকুরগাঁও জেলায় কৃষিসহ বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে বিপ্লব ঘটবে পাশাপাশি উত্তরাঞ্চলের কৃষিপণ্য পরিবহনসহ ব্যবসায়ীরা বাণিজ্যিকভাবে লাভবান হবেন। ট্রেন চালক মনসুর আলম জানান, ডুয়েলগেজ লাইন চালু হলে এই এলাকার মানুষের যাতায়াতের সুবিধা হবে। খুব কম সময়ে ঢাকা, খুলনা, রাজশাহী, সিলেট ও চট্টগ্রাম পৌঁছানো যাবে।
রেল মন্ত্রণালয়ের সংসদীয় স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য ও ঠাকুরগাঁও-৩ আসনের এমপি ইয়াসিন আলী বলেন, এ রেল লাইনে আন্তঃনগর ট্রেন চলাচল শুরু হলে একদিকে যেমন এলাকার মানুষ রেলের আধুনিক সুযোগ-সুবিধা পাবে, অপরদিকে ঘুরবে অর্থনীতির সমৃদ্ধির চাকা। খুলবে অপার সম্ভাবনার দুয়ার। বাড়বে বিনিয়োগ, সৃষ্টি হবে কর্মসংস্থানের। গতি ও মাত্রা বাড়বে অভ্যন্তরীণ ও আন্তঃদেশীয় ব্যবসা বাণিজ্যে। সবমিলিয়ে বিকাশ ঘটবে সুষম অর্থনীতির।
সংরক্ষিত মহিলা আসন ৩০১ (ঠাকুরগাঁও ও পঞ্চগড় জেলা) এর সংসদ সদস্য সেলিনা জাহান লিটা বলেন, রেল লাইনে আন্তঃনগর ট্রেন চলাচল শুরু হলে অর্থনৈতিকভাবে দেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলের সম্পৃক্ততা বাড়বে। এর অনেক ইতিবাচক প্রভাব অর্থনীতিতে পড়বে। এর মাধ্যমে যাত্রীদের সময় সাশ্রয় এবং বাজারজাতকরণের দিক থেকে অর্থনীতির উপকার হবে। এছাড়া বিনিয়োগ সম্ভাবনা বাড়বে এসব অঞ্চলে। সর্বোপরি এর ইতিবাচক প্রতিফলন পড়বে জিডিপি’তে
