আখাউড়া-সিলেট রেল সেকশনের মাধবপুর উপজেলার ৫টি রেলস্টেশনের এখন করুণ দশা। দুটো রেলস্টেশনে ট্রেন যাত্রা বিরতি করলেও স্টেশন মাস্টার না থাকায় প্রচুর যাত্রী বাধ্য হয়ে বিনা টিকিটেই ট্রেন ভ্রমণ করছেন। স্টেশন ৫টি সংস্কার করে চালু করলে সরকারের রাজস্বপ্রাপ্তিসহ এলাকাবাসী ট্রেন চলাচলে সুবিধা পেত। এছাড়া স্টেশনগুলো বন্ধ ও পরিত্যক্ত হয়ে পড়ায় এখানে নানা অসামাজিক ও অপরাধীদের নিরাপদ আস্তানায় পরিণত হয়েছে। স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, মাধবপুর উপজেলার কাসিমনগর, শাহপুর, তেলিয়াপাড়া, রেলস্টেশনে আখাউড়া থেকে সিলেট লোকাল ট্রেন যাত্রা বিরতি করলেও ৩টি রেলস্টেশনে কোনো টিকিট মাস্টার বা লোকবল নেই। কাসিমনগর রেলস্টেশনের টিকিট মাস্টার নুরুল ইসলাম গত ৬ বছর আগে মারা যাওয়ার পর এ স্টেশনে কোনো নতুন লোকবল প্রদায়ন করা হয়নি। যে কারণে রেলস্টেশনের কার্যালয়ে তালা পড়ে। স্টেশনের দোকানদার সুধির চন্দ্র দাস জানান, এখন পার্শ্ববর্তী ১৫/২০টি গ্রাম থেকে আখাউড়া-সিলেট রোডে প্রায় প্রতিদিন ৪টি লোকাল ট্রেনে ২/৩শ’ যাত্রী সাধারণ ওঠানামা করে। কিন্তু এ স্টেশনে তালাবদ্ধ থাকায় যাত্রীরা বাধ্য হয়েই বিনা টিকিটেই ভ্রমণ করছেন। একই অবস্থা তেলিয়াপাড়া ও শাহপুর রেলস্টেশনের। তেলিয়াপাড়া রেলস্টেশন থেকে সুরমা, তেলিয়াপাড়া চা বাগান থেকে প্রতিদিন সিলেট গন্তব্যে প্রচুর যাত্রী যাতায়াত করে থাকে। এ স্টেশনের টিকিট মাস্টার আবদুল হাই ৫ বছর আগে মারা যাওয়ার পর স্টেশনটি বন্ধ হয়ে পড়ে। এছাড়া সংস্কার ও লোকবলের অভাবে ইটাখোলা ও ছাতিয়াইন রেলস্টেশন অনেক বছর ধরে পরিত্যক্ত হয়ে পড়েছে। ছাতিয়াইন ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ চেয়ারম্যান খায়রুল হোসাইন মনু বলেন, এক সময় ছাতিয়াইন রেলস্টেশন থেকে জনগণের চলাচলের একমাত্র মাধ্যম ছিল রেল। এ রেলস্টেশন থেকে কৃষি পণ্য ঢাকা-চট্টগ্রাম সিলেটে সরবরাহ করা হতো।
এতে এলাকার কৃষকরা উপকৃত হওয়ার পাশাপাশি সরকারও রাজস্ব পেত। এখন এ রেলস্টেশনটি সংস্কার করে আবার পুনরায় ট্রেন চলাচলে ব্যবস্থা করলে এলাকাবাসী উপকৃত হবে। এলাকার ব্যবসায়ী জয়নাল আবেদীন জানান, কাসিমনগর রেলস্টেশনটি একটি জনগুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্টেশন। ব্রিটিশ আমল হতে এ স্টেশন থেকে অনেক লোক যাতায়াত করত। বর্তমানে রেলস্টেশনটি সংস্কার করে লোকবল নিয়োগ করে চালু করলে সরকার রাজস্ব পেত। হবিগঞ্জ-৪ (মাধবপুর-চুনারুঘাট) আসনের সংসদ সদস্য অ্যাডভোকেট মাহবুব আলী বলেন, হবিগঞ্জের রেলস্টেশনগুলো সংস্কার ও লোকবল নিয়োগের জন্য রেল কর্তৃপক্ষের নিকট দাবি জানানো হবে। রেলের একটি সূত্র জানায়, লোকবলের অভাবেই স্টেশনগুলো চালু করা সম্ভব হচ্ছে না।
